German - Ottoman Alliance

A

The German–Ottoman alliance was ratified by the German and Ottoman Empires on August 2, 1914, shortly following the outbreak of World War I. It was created as part of a joint effort to strengthen and modernize the weak Ottoman military and to provide Germany with safe passage into the neighboring British colonies.[1]

  • On June 28, 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated while visiting Sarajevo.
  • Assassin Gavrilo Princip belonged to the Young Bosnians and was supported by Serbian terrorist group Black Hand.
