Trenches were a defense system used in WW1, they were dugouts underground with sandbags on the top to help protect the soldiers

As the size of the army grew the soldiers hade to be put on rations. many soldiers in WW2 suffered from trench foot, they got this from spending hours in muddy water without being able to dry thier feet.
Whose trenches were better and why
The German trenches were built better than the allies’ trenches as they knew that the war would go on for longer so they built trenches so that they would last, they built them as a defence and not to attack the enemy. On the other hand the allies built trenches for short term combat.
