Bolsheviks had 200,000 members, 41 papers & 10,000 red guards
Petrograd Soviet set up a Military Revolutionary Committee to defend Petrograd- controlled 200,000 red guards, 60,000 Baltic sailors and 150,000 soldiers of the Petrograd Garrison
10th October- Lenin won vote to replace PG with Petrograd Soviet
24th October- Kerensky attempted to arrest MRC Leaders. Response was quick, 8000 Bolshevik red guards and Kronstadt sailors seized key positions
25th October- red guards surrounded the winter palace and the battleship aurora and the garrison at St Peter and Paul fortress fired warning shots
26th October- red guards and civilians broke into the winter palace and arrested the remaining members of the provisional government
