What was the von Schlieffen Plan? What was the main purpose of the plan? What three options did Germany have for invasion? Which option did they choose and why? What was wrong with the other two choices? (5 Marks)
The plan is two take out France without having to fight on two fronts. The three options were to either go through Switzerland but there is a lot of terrain. They could have gone through the France German borders but the French put all their troops on the border. Lastly they could go through Belgium which they did, because of the flat terrain and because Belgium had a smaller army.
