What is nationalism?
nationalism is pride in ones own country but that isn’t always a good thing as it can lead to over glorification leading to increased competition
What are the alliances of ww1?
there was the triple entente which was Britain, France and Russia and the triple alliance Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungry
What is imperialism?
when a country extends its power over other territorities for economic or political gain through the process of colonisation
What is militarism?
belief that country’s should use military force to gain power and achieve its goals.
When did WW1 start and when did it end
28 July 1914 – 11 November 1918
How did they recruit men to join
Britain encouraged men to join the war by creating propaganda posters which got them to join through tactics of patriotism, heroism or shame
what was the white feather campaign
This was where women would hand out white feathers to men not wearing uniform in the streets as they represented cowardice
What were conditions like in the trenches?
Conditions in the trenches were very bad
What was the land between the trenches called?
The land was called no-mans land
What problems did the weather cause
The weather was very bad and there was lots of rain which lead to flooding in the dams which lead to trench foot and drowning.
How were rats a problem
men with frostbite or trench foot would wake up to rats gnawing on their numb flesh and rats carried diseases so they caused contamination as well as the fact that within 1 year one rat couple could produce up to 900 offspring
