replicable but not reliable, introspection focuses on subjective experience, findings varied greatly, difficult to establish consistent general principles of human behavior, behaviorist WATSON, only study behavior that can be observed scientifically, behaviorist approach developed, used more empirical methods, carefully controlled lab experiments, increased scientific status following contributions from Wundt.
