Prosecco body, taste and types

A

Light bodied sparkling wine from Italy. Green fruit (pear) and floral aromas. Can be dry or medium in sweetness

Glera (also known as Prosecco) is the predominant grape behind Prosecco. It is a green-skinned, white wine grape that produces relatively neutral wines with notes of white blossom and peaches.

Cava

A

From Spain, dry sparking wine, Green fruit (apple) and citrus (lemon)

The traditional grape varieties used in Cava were Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo, but the Champagne grapes Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are also now being used.

Beaujolais is a French Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée wine generally made of the Gamay grape, which has a thin skin and is low in tannins

A

Dry, medium bodied red wine from France. Red fruit plum and white pepper flavours. It can be oaked or unoaked.

Chianti

A

Dry, medium bodied Italian Red wine with high tannins and acidity. Red fruit flavours and sometimes aromas from the Oak ie cloves.

Sangiovese is the main grape used in both “Chianti” and “Chianti Classico”.

In Chianti Classico, the wine must be made from at least 80 percent Sangiovese grapes.

In Chianti, only 70 percent needs to be Sangiovese.

Rioja

A

Dry, medium to full bodied red wine from Spain that has typically red fruit aromas and vanilla aromas from the oak barrells.

Tempranillo is the most important grape and is at the heart of Rioja’s best wines. It makes abundantly fruity, light wines and has a special affinity with oak-ageing, becoming graceful, silky and perfumed with time.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape

A

Dry, full bodied, high alcohol, acidity & tannin red wine from France with clove flavours from Oak.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a historic village between the towns of Orange and Avignon, in France’s southern Rhône Valley. It is famous for powerful, full-bodied red wine, largely made from the classic southern Rhône grape trio of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Sauternes

A

Full bodied, high acidity, sweet wine made in Bordeaux. Flavours of stone fruits (apricot) and vanilla from Oak barrels.

Sauternes wine is made from Sémillon, sauvignon blanc, and muscadelle grapes that have been affected by Botrytis cinerea, also known as noble rot. This causes the grapes to become partially raisined, resulting in concentrated and distinctively flavored wines.

Sherry

A

Fortified white wine from Spain. It can be either dry, medium or sweet.

Sherry is made from 3 green grapes only. Palomino, Moscatel and Pedro Ximenez. The Palomino grape gives us all of the dry Sherries.

Port

A

Fortified wine from Portugal. Sweet and high in alcohol and is made in a range of styles. Typically full bodied, with high tennis and black fruit flavours.

One of the most important qualities of true Port is the unique blend of Portuguese indigenous grapes. Port grapes include Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo), Tinta Barroca and Tinta Cão, and there are said to be at least 52 varieties! Each grape adds a unique flavor to the blend.

Champagne

A

French sparkling white wine made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Typically dry and high in acidity with aromas of green fruits and citrus.

The Champagne region of France is less than 100 miles east of Paris and is made up of the Aube, Marne, Haute-Marne, and Ardennes departments.

The viticultural boundaries of Champagne are legally defined and split into five wine-producing districts within the historical province: Aube, Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, Montagne de Reims, and Vallée de la Marne.

A

Dry, medium bodied French white wine. No oak with high acidity and pronounced green fruit and grass flavours.

Burgundy

A

Wines from the Burgundy/Bourgogne region of France. They can be either Red or White.

White wines are made from Chardonnay and can be oaked or not.
They are dry and medium bodied and often show riper fruit flavours than Chablis such as lemon and peach ie citrus and stone fruits.

Red are made from Pinot Noir and are dry
Low to medium tannins and be light to medium bodied with high acidity.
Flavours from red fruits and sometimes vanilla and smoke from oaks.
