A. Christ, the Son of God, became man, by assuming a real body and a reasonable soul. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the womb of the virgin Mary, who gave birth to him; yet he was sinless.

A. As our Redeemer, Christ is a prophet, a priest, and a king in both in his humiliation and his exaltation.

A. As a prophet, Christ reveals the will of God to us for our salvation by his word and Spirit.

A. As a priest, Christ offered himself up once as a sacrifice for us to satisfy divine justice and to reconcile us to God, and he continually intercedes for us.

A. As a king, Christ brings us under his power, rules and defends us, and restrains and conquers all His and our enemies.
Q. 27. In what did Christ’s humiliation consist?
A. Christ’s humiliation consisted in being born, and that in a poor circumstances; in being subject to God’s law; in undergoing the miseries of this life, the wrath of God and the curse of death on the cross; in being buried; and in continuing under the power of death for a time.
