Where do we apply shadow liner?
Lash line to brow bone, also can be applied under eye.
What can we use to prime the eyes?
- Formulated eye primer
- Cream shadow
- Concealer
Why should we use shadow primer?
To make shadows last longer, appear brighter and to assist in application.
Light concealer makes colours brighter
Concealers help with pigmentation/colour corrector on eyelids - like working on a blank canvas.
What are the guidelines to follow when using eyeliner?
- Lining the eye is used to define and create illusion
- Always clean/sharpen pencils before use
- Liner may be defined or smudged/blended
- Liner can be applied before or after shadows
- Combine different colour of liners and shadows for dimension and interest.
What are the different eye shapes?
- Almond/upturned eyes
- Small/deep set eyes
- Round/protruding eyes
- Monolid/creaseless eyes
- Hooded/Turned eyes

How would you correct almond eyes?
- No correction required
- Any makeup technique will work (keeping it appropriate for clients preference).
What is the correction for small/deep set eyes?
- Correction - to enlarge and or brighten lid.
- Lid - tints (lighter than skin)
- Crease - contour create with medium hue, may add darker hue to outer corner
- Liner - more defined on outer corner
- Other - highlight inner corner to brighten.
What is the correction for round protruding eyes?
- Correction - minimize lid area and widen.
- Lid - medium shade
- Crease - contour crease with medium to darker hue, concentrating darker on outer corner.
- Liner - Heavy liner may be used on upper lash line and/or you can line entire eye and water line.
- Other - highlight below brow and inner corner.
What is the correction for moonlid/creaseless eyes?
- Correction - to add definition.
- Lid - medium shade on lower 1/2 of eye, darker hue along lash line and/or outer corner.
- Liner - More defined to enhance lashes
- Other - If a slight crease is visible the contouring my be done to accentuate crease.
What is the correction for hooded/down turned eyes?
- Correction - lift outer corner and contour crease area.
- Lid - tints (lighter than skin)
- Crease - contour crease with matte medium hue going up brow bone to create lift where needed. Add darker hue to outer corner.
- Liner - heavier liner on outer corner on top and softer lines on bottom lash line
- Other - Highlighter below brow and inner corner
- Best to work on open eyes
What is the correction for heavy/mature eyes?
- Correction - To brighten and add natural definition
- Lid - tints (brighter than skin)
- Crease - contour crease with matte medium hue going up brow bone to create lift where needed. Add darker hue to outer corner.
- Liner - Soften liner or dark shadow on outer corner on top and soften liner on Botton lash line.
- Other - Highlight below brow and inner corner on lid.
*Not too dark, may look harsh or overdone.
What is colour theory used for?
- Colour theory will never change when make-up trends do.
- Colour theory is used to camouflage and/or compliment
What are primary colours?
Primary colours cannot be mixed from any other colours.
They are Red, Blue and Yellow.
What are secondary colours?
You can create secondary colours by mixing equal parts of two primary colours.
They are Orange, Green and Purple
How are tertiary colours made?
Mixing equal parts of one primary and one secondary colour beside it on the colour wheel.
What is a tint?
A tint is made from white being added to a pure colour. It is used to lighten.
Example - pink is a tint of red
What is a tone?
A tone is when grey is added to a pure colour. It is used to mute/tone down colour.
What is a shade?
A shade is when black is added to a pure colour, and it is used to darken.
What is a complimentary colour combination?
Shades, tints and tones opposite to the other on the colour wheel.
I.e. Orange and blue
What are monochromatic colour combinations?
Shades, tints and tones of one colour on the colour wheel.
What are analogous colour combinations?
Shades, tints, and tones beside on another on the colour wheel.
What are triadic colour combinations?
Shades, tints and tones equally spaced from each other on the colour wheel. (creates an A on the colour wheel)
I.e. Green, orange and purple
What is a warm colour?
Colours with a yellow undertone
What is a cool colour?
Colours that have a blue undertone.
What are colours that are best used for blue eyes?

What is primer important for when doing a makeup application on mature women?
Primer is important because it smooths fine lines/wrinkles/pores.
How much coverage for foundation should you apply when working on mature women?
Foundation should have sheer coverage (damp sponge/brush will assist in application, use buffing motions)
What kind of concealer should be used on mature women?
Concealer should be cream based, not heavy/medium to light coverage
Why should you use little to no powder on mature women for complexion work?
Little to no power should be used as it will settle into fine lines.
What kind of colours for contours should be used on mature women and what should you be mindful of when applying contour?
Rosey/neutral colours for contour on face used to bring back colour, and be mindful of “hollow cheeks” when contouring.
What kind of highlighter would you use on a mature women/application?
Little/light highlight, should be matte.
What kind of eye primer would you apply before applying shadows on mature women?
Eye primer should be sheer with no pigment.
What kind of eye shadow finishes would you use on a mature application and how would you contour your shadows?
Use matte/satin finishes for shadows. You want to make sure you contour properly so you don’t emphasize wrinkles.
What kind of eye liner would you apply on a mature makeup application?
Liner should be natural, no pencil liner on bottom lash line.
For mature women how would you apply mascara?
For mature women it is recommended to apply mascara only on the top lashes.
What kind of brow makeup would you do for a mature application?
Brows should be filled but natural and soft.
- Use a cool undertone for white brows.
Why is a lip primer helpful for mature women?
Primer will help smooth “crepey” lips
Why would you not use matte lipstick on mature women?
Matte lipstick will make lips look dried out. (Try not to use)
