Papule
A small raised solid pimple or swelling. Usually forming a rash and inflamed but not producing pus.
Acne
A skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin

A Fibrous protein forming the main structural element of hair.
Beau’s Lines
Depressions running across the width of the nail plate; a result of serious injury.

8-10 cell layers also known as the prickle cell layer. Contains irregular polyhedral cells with cytoplasmic processes.
Hang Nail
Damaged skin attached to the living skin around the nail plate becomes split or torn.

A pale or white topped pustule on the skin.

Whitish discoloration of the nails. Usually caused by minor injury to the nail matrix. Not related to body health.

A condition in with the skin is lighter in color than normal.

A gland that makes sweat, tears, saliva, milk and digestive juices and releases them through a duct or opening to a body surface.

The thin layer of the skin.
Eumelanin
A type of melanin that is dark brown to black in color.
Pyogenic granuloma
Severe inflammation of the nail, in which a lump of the red tissue grows up from the nail bed to the nail plate.
Bruised nail bed
Dark purplish spots usually due to physical injury.
