What are the 9 sections of a research report
Title page
Abstract

What is in the title page
First page containing the title, the author and author details such as their address, e-mail address etc. For a student report this is replaced with details such as student ID number, degree programme name and module name.
What is the abstract
This is the second page of the report.
What is the title?
The title is repeated from the first page but no details as to authorship are provided at this time.
What is the introduction?
This continues on the same page but normally the heading ‘introduction’ is omitted. It should explain why the problem is important, describe relevant research and theory and give the hypotheses and how they are addressed by the research design.
What is the method?
A heading usually followed by a number of subheadings e.g.
Participants
Materials
Design and procedure
What is in the results section?
Includes the findings from statistical analysis,, tables and diagrams.
What is in the discussion?
This goes into detailed explanation of the findings presented under results.
What is the Appendices?
Optional section and is relatively rare. Usually contain information that is helpful but confusing if incorporated into the main body of text.
