Where are the high notes written?
On the stave near the top, on or between the lines. (Treble Clef)
Where are the low notes written?
On the stave near the bottom, on or between the lines. Bass Clef.
What is the name of the line coming out of a notepad called?
Stem
Which way do the stems go?
P & d. On the left of the notepad for high notes, like a p. On the right of the note-head for low notes going up like a letter d.
How do you indicate pitch?
By the vertical position of the note on the stave. The higher up on the stave the note the higher the pitch. The lower on the stave the note the lower the pitch.
How do you relate the staff to the pitch of the notes?
Use a clef at the beginning of the line
If the note is on the middle line which way does the stem go?
Up or down depending on how the composer has written the music. Usually to make it easier to read.
Why can the middle note stem go up or down?
Choice means the music can be written so it is easier to read
What hand on the keyboard plays the high notes?
The right hand
What hand on a piano plays the low notes?
The left hand
What does a note-head look like?
Oval, tilted to the right, either solid black or not filled in
On a keyboard which notes are to the right?
The high notes
What are the notes that have the same letter name but are on the next part of the stave said to be?
An octave apart
What are the ascending names of the keys on the keyboard called?
A,B,C,D,E,F,G repeating
What’s the note between the two black keys called?
D natural
