Wrist & Hand Flashcards
What joints are involved in the wrist and hand complex?
• Radiocarpal
• Distal radioulnar joint
• Two sets of intercarpal joints
• Midcarpal joints
• Carpometacarpal joints
• Metacarpophalangeal joints
• Distal interphalangeal joints
What movements are allowed at the radiocarpal joint?
Wrist flexion, extension, radial deviation, and ulnar deviation.
What movements are allowed at the distal radioulnar joint?
Pronation and supination.
What movements are allowed at the carpal joints?
Finger flexion and extension.
What is the close-packed position for the radiocarpal joint?
Flexion and extension equally limited.
What is the close-packed position for the distal radioulnar joint?
Slight supination (5 degrees).
What is the resting/loose-packed position for the radiocarpal joint?
Neutral with slight ulnar deviation.
What is the resting/loose-packed position for the distal radioulnar joint?
10 degrees of supination.
