Congenital heart disease
Scaling and Root Planing Requirements
Teeth having clinical attachment loss with pocket depths > 5 mm or > 4 mm with bleeding on probing
Clinical Attachment Level
Distance from the cemento-enamel junction to the base of the gingival sulcus
In health, CAL = 0
Periodontal Prognosis
Good - health or slight CAL, no mobility or furcation involvement, control of etiological factors
Fair - slight or moderate CAL, Class 1 mobility or furcation involvement
Questionable - severe CAL, poor crown to root ratio, poor root form, Class 2 or 3 mobility or furcation involvement, significant root proximity
Hopeless - involves factors listed in questionable with inadequate attachment to maintain the tooth in health
Furcation Involvement
Class 1: 1-2 mm
Class 2: > 2 mm
Class 3: extends through entire furcation
Mobility
Class 1:
Periodontal Disease Risk Factors
Smoking Diabetes Xerostomia Medications Genetics Poor oral hygiene Irregular dental care
