WR Flashcards
Tell me about yourself?
I have a passion for complex problems that can only be solved by understanding the fundamental building blocks of the problem. This has always been the way my mind works, I commit the fundamentals and logic of an issue or problem to memory, and the rest falls into place from there. Mastering a program such as Civil 3D that is continually evolving and always has new features to master would represent one of the most exciting endeavors of my career. Civil 3D is a very complex program built on layers of fundamental building blocks. Understanding the fundamentals and being able to deduce how you would accomplish a task from using these fundamental tools of the program is the key to mastery. Programs like this can only be mastered by mastering the tool sets and their subsets available, and deducing how to accomplish the task at hand from that knowledge. Autodesk realized this and built the design of the interface around the idea. The program is designed with “intuitive” ribbons that change based on the object or task you are working with.
Do you know Civil 3D?
Yes. I understand it. I might not have completed every task that the program is capable of doing, but my understanding of the fundamentals and being able to deduce how you would accomplish a task from using these fundamental tools is what allows me to answer yes.
Why should I hire you?
You will not find someone more interested in the scope of this position. Yes there are many applicants very interested in working at one of the most preeminent engineering firms in the State, but are they truly interested in being the best Civil 3D CAD technician possible. I am!
Why did you leave your last job?
Why do you want to leave you present position?
Connexion Technologies struggled on for a few years but ultimately we did not make it though the economic downturn of 2008.
This position seemed like an excellent match for my skills and experience and I am not able to fully utilize them in my present job.
What is your greatest strength / weakness?
My greatest strength is the breadth of my experience and my love for and ability to understand complex issues and software. My greatest weakness would have to be my accent or speech pattern I picked up from growing up in the Virgin Islands. Some people find it hard to understand me when I fall back into this speech pattern. I have been endeavoring to enunciate more clearly and seem to have this weakness under control. Unless of course you just did not understand a word I said?
Describe a situation you’ve been in where you had to work as a team to achieve some goal and tell what you got out of the experience?
In my previous positions at Connexion I had many opportunities to work on teams to achieve diverse goals. My most important takeaway from those experiences was that the group must work together and each member must be willing to do whatever needs to be done. Saying not my job in a team setting or almost any environment is not acceptable. Even the team leader has to be willing to run copies or whatever is needed to keep his team on track and achieving their goals.
