Wound Types Flashcards
Donor sites/grafts
Transplantation of skin-layer of skin removed from healthy part of the body (donor site)
Two types:
- Partial thickness-
- Full thickness-
Surgical wounds
Donor sites Grafts Post Mohrs Post Laser Podiatric Wound dehiscence
Laser Surgery
Uses laser light to remove diseased tissue or treat bleeding blood vessels. Laser heats the cells in the area if treatment until they burst
List trauma wounds
Abrasion Laceration Avulsion 2nd degree burn Skin tears
What are abrasions
Wound caused by superficial damage to skin no deeper than the epidermis. Grazes it scrapes. Skin come into moving contact w a rough surface causing grinding or rubbing away of upper layers of epidermis.
What is a laceration?
A wound or injury which skin is torn, cut or punctured with blunt force trauma. Sharp injury which damaged the dermis.
What is avulsion

What are skin tears
Traumatic injuries which can result in partial or full separation of outer layers of skin.
Partial-epidermis deprecated from dermis
Full- both epidermis and dermis separate from
What is a 2nd degree burn
Partial or full thickness
Partial-invoked entire epidermis and upper layers if dermis, blisters can me present
Full-the destruction of entire epidermis and most if the dermis
What is wound dehiscence
A surgical wound. A surgical wound that breaks open
Mohrs surgery
Chemo surgery. Microscopically controlled surgery used to treat common types if skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma is most common skin cancer
Podiatric Surgery
Surgical treatment of conditions affecting the foot, ankle and lower extremity structure

Venous ulcer
Wounds that occur due to improper function of venous valves, usually legs
Diabetic ulcers
Caused by diabetes, a metabelloic disorder that impedes normal steps of wound healing process
