Wound Healing Flashcards
How long does the haemostatic stage of wound healing last?
a few seconds
What occurs in the haemostatic stage of wound healing?
Prostaglandins released, leads to vasoconstriction. Collagen exposed in damaged vessel wall binds to platelets and initiates clotting cascade. Fibrin mesh forms.
How long does the inflammatory phase last?
3-5 days
What occurs in the inflammatory phase?
Vasodilation and increased capillary leakage promotes delivery of nutrients and immune cells to injury site = oedema.
Name the 4 stages of wound healing?
HaemostaticInflammatoryProliferativeRemodelling
What occurs in the proliferative phase?
Re-epithelisation Angiogenesis Collagen synthesis
How long does the proliferative phase last?
4 days - 2 weeks after injury
What happens during the remodelling stage?
Collagen remodellingVascular maturation and regression
