Wound Healing Flashcards
Types of injury resulting in wound
Ischemia, trauma, infection, chronic irritation, and autoimmune disease
What are the two types of tissue repair?
Regeneration or scar formation
What are the three types of tissue repair cells
Labile cells -> stable cells -> permanent cells
What kind of cells are continuously dividing and replacing destroyed cells?
Labile cells
What cells are in the quiescent phase?
Stable cells
What type of cell are non dividing and have left the cell cycle?
Permanent cells
What is an important stimulus for cell proliferation?
Growth factors
What is the scar formation sequence of events?
Clot formation -> inflammation-> epithelial regeneration-> fibroblast activation -> neovasculartion -> collagen deposition
What vitamin does pro collagen use as a cofactor?
Vitamin C
What is scar formation dependent on?
Amount of collagen, type of collagen, and remodeling of the scar
What is secondary union or second intention?
The process required to rapid injuries which there has been more extensive tissue loss and inflammatory reaction
64 year old male has a massive myocardial infraction involving the left ventricle. What type of repair mechanism will come into play?
Growth scar tissue in the left ventricle
What type of healing would a type 2 diabetic patient go through with a necrotic foot ulcer?
Secondary union
What are requirements for wound healing?
Adequate nutrition, blood supply, cleansing, and immobilization
What are complications of wound healing?
Excess granulation tissue, deficient scar tissue, excess scar formation, contractures
