- haemostasis: blood forms and clots to bind the wound
- inflammation: wound area swells and becomes red and painful
- proliferation: blood and nutrients help to rebuild the wound bed
- remodelling: damaged tissues regenerate into healthy tissues
How are general wounds classified?
As superficial, partial or full thickness
What is a chronic wound?
A wound which does demonstrate signs of healing within 2 weeks
What local factors may contribute to a chronic wound?
Poor blood supply, infection, poor immune system, moisture, movement, poor wound care
What systemic factors may contribute to a chronic wound?
Age, alcohol consumption, poor nutrition, poor general health, medications, immobility, obesity, smoking, poor social conditions, hydration
