Name different views on baptism?
Catholics believe that infants should be baptized to wash away original sin.
Baptists believe adults should be baptised because this reflects on what happened to Jesus (Baptised by John age 30), plus this recognizes your free choice
Describe 2 different views on the pope?
Baptist believe we don’t need priests and popes because they have the bible
Catholics believe that the pope runs the church and is the head of the church
Why do Catholics have statues in the church?
They have them because if you pray to saint they will talk to God and you will have less time in purgatory
Why is the Catholic church bare with no paintings?
Because they don’t want anyone to have any distractions, God is the only one
Where as baptists think distractions are learning aids and pictures are influence from God
How many wounds did Jesus have on his crucifix?

Describe how the crosses are different in Catholic and Baptist churches?
Baptists- plain cross to emphasis the hope of resurrection an it shows that the future will be positive
Catholics- have a crucifix (cross with Jesus on) as it shows the sacrifice Jesus has made for us
Why do Catholics have stain glass windows?
They believe they help the laity (people who have come to worship) learn the stories of Christianity and they show respect for God
Why do Catholics have votive candles?
they mark a space to pray for departed roots (intercession of souls)
What are rosary beads?
they are a set of beads with a cross for use in private prayer. each bead is associated with a particular prayer e.g. hail marys
Why do Christians pray?
-Jesus prayed and he is a role model and God listened
-To reconnect with God
-Because of God’s nature- immanent (personal) wants a relationship with us
-“Ask and it shall be given to you”
Name 3 different types of prayer?
Grace- giving thanks
Asking for forgiveness
Asking for help “ask and it shall be given to you”
How do Catholics reach God?
Liturgical- church services follow a set pattern
E.g. priest says “peace be with you” and the laity responds “and also with you”
What is Mass?
A service celebrating the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christi, using the bread and the wine
“Do this in memory of me”
What do protestants think of Mass?
Consider mass to be blasphemous because they believe JC only died once and it was sufficient to pay for all sins
Lords suffer- a sacrifice of thanksgiving to God
What do Catholics think about Mass?
They believe the read and the wine represent the flesh and blood of Jesus “this is my body and blood”
What are the purposes of marriage?
- Uniting two people together in a life long bond
- Providing secure environment for the birth and upbringing of children

The civil contract between two people

Where people live together without being married
What do Protestants think about marriage?
Marriage is to be ordained by God for the union between a man and a woman
They believe marriage is not a sacrament
Divorce is forbidden
What do Catholics believe in Marriage?
They believe marriage is a public sign that an individual is giving themselves totally to another person
“what God has joined together, let no man separate”
They allow divorce but you cant get remarried in the eyes of a catholic church
“thou shall not commit adultery”
What is a funeral?
A funeral is a ceremony or service held shortly after a person’s death, usually including the persons burial cremation
What do Protestants think on funerals?
They believe that you can be cremated as your soul and body are separate
They also believe in purgatory
What do Catholics think about Funerals?
Burial so body and souls go to heaven
The funeral is traditionally made up of 3 parts: Vigil, Funeral Liturgy and Committal- this is to make sure God is present
