Hindenburg appointed head of the OHL. Ludendorff is made Chief of Staff. De Facto military dictatorship formed.

Food rations drop to their lowest throughout the war (14.6 million tonnes of grain in this year, vs 27.1 million in 1914)

Formation of the USPD

Demonstrations for more food and an end to the war occur in Berlin

The working class becomes angry at the growing black market only suitable for the middle and upper class (the black market was responsible for 20-35% of food sales)
