What was the Schlieffen Plan?
A plan made by the German Field Marshal , Alfred von Schlieffen , in an attempt to invade France through Belgium to give them the element of surprise
Why did the Schlieffen Plan fail?
As Belgium was allied with Britain , who helped them fight the Germans (this was unexpected) . While this was happening , Russia attacked Germany earlier than they expected , so their troops were not prepared and the original plan was ruined.

Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary

Great Britain, Russia and France
What was the main trigger of WW1?
Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was murdered by Gavrilo Princip, member of the terrorist group, The Black Hand gang, based in Serbia.
Give three examples of why the trenches were so bad.
They were cramped and confined places so soldiers would get diseases such as trench foot, the soldiers were not able to wash for weeks at a time and had to live like this for ages, and
How did WW1 propaganda mislead people to join the army?
It romanticised the act of going to war by only telling people about the better aspects like being a hero or having an exciting story to tell. They also told people that this war was not going to last very long
What was the deadlier weapon; machine guns, tanks or gas?
Machine guns: long range, efficient,affective death rates but needed 4-6 people to work them and had to be on a flat surface.
Tanks: Slow, couldn’t cross the trenches, long distance, barely used, bu t very strong
(chlorine) Gas: the weather must be right, but caused large evacuated areas left unattended, and injured the effected soldiers.
