However, the 1904 (Entente Cordiale) and the 1907 (Anglo- Russian Agreement) alliances were not about support for war, but are rather about land and power.

Why did competition between Britain and Germany increase tensions in Europe up to 1914?
-Imperialism
Both Germany and Britain were competing for a bigger empire.
This caused tensions because they wanted more power. They wanted to own Africa, because it was a lot of land, and it would increase their empire and make them look bigger.
-The naval race
They were competing for the biggest navy. This caused them to produce more dreadnoughts and weapons, this increased tensions because weapon suggest war or conflict. So it made other countries suspicious, and Germany and Britain became more suspicious of themselves.
What was the arms race?
An arms race is a competition between two or more parties to have the best armed forces. Competing includes producing more weapons, such as dreadnoughts and improving military techniques, and having greater armies. After the two antagonistic power blocs Britain and Germany were formed, because of the fear that one would over power the other, the world war 1 began.
The arms race was a race between every country in Europe, a battle for power, a battle for a greater navy.
Why did Britain need a navy so much more than Germany?
Because Britain was an island, so it needed to protect itself more from attackers and enemies.
