What is/ Who was involved in (BLIZKRIEG)
WHAT is it: aka “lightening war” it involved using fast airplanes and tanks, followed by massive infantry forces to take enemy defenders by surprise and quickly overwhelm them. WHO used it: Germany it was their newest military strategy WHO was it USED on: Poland RESULT: the strategy worked and Germany took over Poland
What is (ISLAND HOPING)
WHAT is it: the phrase given to the USA strategy of gaining military bases and securing islands in the Pacific WHO used it: General MacArthur of the USA used it to try and shut down Japan RESULT: it was successful for the USA it allowed them to gain control over islands in the Pacific and get close enough to Japan to invade them
What is (KAMIKAZE)
WHAT is it: it literally translates to “divine wind.” But during WWII they were suicide pilots who would sink Allied warships by crash-diving their bomb-filled planes into them. WHY was this created: because the Japanese were having trouble keeping up with USA in the pacific fighting RESULT: somewhat successful especially in the beginning. The allied troops were afraid of them because they could not defend themselves against them.

What was the impact of (TREATY OF VESALLIES)
FIRST IMPACT: The terms of the treaty severely weakened and punished Germany, demanding over $64 billion in reparations and virtually obliterating the German military. SECOND IMPACT: many nations who sided with the Allies (during WWI), such as Italy, were not happy because they did not receive land promised to them by the Allies.
What was the (BATTLE OF BRITAN)?
After Hitler took France, Britain had no one to help them defend themselves against Germany. Hitler put a plan in place to invade and take Britain.

GERMANY’S PLAN: to take out the RAF (Royal Airforce) and bomb Britain until they surrendered BRITAIN’S DEFENSE: they had two technological devices that helped them (RADAR-an electronic tracking system and ENIGMA-German code-making machine–it helped them decode Germany’s secret messages) RESULT: Germany gave up and left Britain SIGNIFICANCE: they allies realized German attacks could be blocked

Germany’s pilots were bombing Soviet Union nightly hoping to take control of the Soviet Union

Germany’s Plan: they sent army and Airforce to take Stalingrad because it was a major industrial center on the Volga River in Soviet Union (Russia). Russia’s plan for defense: Stalingrad told his men to defend the city until their death The role of the Russian winter: the Germans were controlling 90% of the city but then the Russia. Winter set in and the Soviets were able to launch a counterattack. They trapped the Germans in the city and cut off their supplies RESULT: the city was almost completely destroyed but the Soviets drove the Germans out of Russia SIGNIFiCANCE: the Germans were on the defensive and moving westward
What was the (BATTLE OF MIDWAY)
Japan lost four aircraft carriers and their most important naval weapon. Because of this battle the USA was now defeating Japan.
