Britain had ententes with France and Russia, only friendly agreements but French and Russians given impression Britain would fight
What was the cause of the Great War
The Immediate trigger of world war 1 was the assassination of the heir to the throne of the Austria-Hungarian empire on the 28th of June 1914. Gavrilo principe was the person who killed the archduke and his wife

1914: 28th June: arch duke Franz Ferdinand assassinated
5th July: Germany pledges support for its ally Austria-Hungary
23rd July: Austria-Hungary presents ultimatum to Serbia
28th July: Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
30th July: Russia mobilises its troops to support its ally Serbia
1st August: Germany declares war on Russia
3rd August: Germany declares war on France and invades Belgium
4th August: Britain declares war on Germany in response to the invasion of neutral Belgium and in support of its ally France, Australia, New Zealand and Canada enter war in support of Britain
6th August: Austria-Hungary declares war on Russia, Serbia declares war on Germany
12th August: Britain and France declare war on Austria-Hungary

What was the crisis
The crisis was when archduke Ferdinand was assassinated
Explain Britain’s reaction to the war
Britain was scared of Germany controlling Channel ports. They didn’t want Germany to defeat France and dominate Europe.
Explain why the assassination of the archduke was so significant
This was significant because, this is what caused the war in the first place. The archduke was assassinated by a Serbian person so then Austria-Hungary declared war on them, so then all the other country’s joined in because of their alliances.
Explain the Gallipoli campaign
The Gallipoli peninsula is located in the modern day turkey. The Ottoman Empire was on the side of Germany in ww1. The British came up with a plan to help Russia by controlling the Dardanelles and the sea of Marma. Germany was fighting Russia on what was called the eastern front . However the controlling of the Dardanelles and the sea of Marma did not go to plan the British were defeated.
What happened at Gallipoli
The Royal Navy tried to bomb the Turkish forts in the Dardanelle straights in 1915 but all this did was worn the Turkish empire that the allies were thinking of attacking there
