describe the first moroccan crisis
the uk, spain and italy said they’d let france take over morocco, but german kaiser wilhelm 2 visited tangier in 1905 to pledge Germany’s support for sultan Abdelaziz of Morocco and pledge to stop the french takeover, causing a threat of war between france and germany.
why didn’t the first moroccan crisis lead to war, and why was it a humiliation for germany?
the algeciras conference was held in spain in 1906 to settle the conflict, and the entente cordiale (the uk and france) stood firm against germany, along with everyone except austria-hungary. germany was humiliated, and russia’s relations with the uk improved, helping to from the triple entente.
describe the second moroccan crisis
a rebellion against the sultan of morocco broke out in Fez, the capital city, in 1911, and the french sent troops to help the sultan; the german kaiser wilhelm 2 accused france of invading morocco, and sent a warship to the port of agadir.
outcome of the second moroccan crisis
britain and france and other european countries stood firm against germany, who had to back down and order the warship to leave agadir; france took over morocco, and germany was given land in central africa as compensation. but now germany was really humiliated, and many german people supported the kaiser in talks of war.

between 1906 and 1914, britain and germany competed to build dreadnoughts, which were extremely powerful ships. the uk won overall.
what was the bosnian crisis?
in 1908, tensions between austria-hungary and turkey, who wanted to rebuild the turkish empire, caused austria-hungary to annex bosnia and herzegovina - but lots of people in bosnia were serbs, so serbia was angry. russia supported serbia, and called for a conference to solve the issue, but austria-hungary refused to attend because germany supported them, and germany told russia to instead accept bosnia and herzegovina and part of austria-hungary. russia had to back down.
whose assassination in 1914 caused the outbreak of WW1, where, and by whom?
in sarajevo, austro-hungarian archduke franz ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by gavrilo princip, a bosnian serb, who was part of the black hand gang, a bosnian serb rebel group.
who declared war on whom, and why?
austria-hungary sent serbia demands, which serbia refused, so austria-hungary declared war on serbia. russia decided to help out serbia, and prepared their army to fight austria-hungary - and germany. germany declared war on russia, and began moving through belgium and france as part of the schlieffen plan to take over france before it fought russia. the uk declared war on germany to protect belgium as part of their treaty.
