Government responses to healthcare inequalities?
Medicaid-
For people over 65 and the poor.
Doesn’t cover all treatments
Doctors can refuse treatment if you don’t have insurance.
Obamacare-
Provide affordable, good quality healthcare
Aims to lower no of people who are uninsured&I stops insurance companies denying coverage/charging more for pre-existing conditions.
Sets minimum standards of health insurance; companies must provide emergency care, prescription drugs and hospitalisation
Americans participation in politics, how can they participate?
Vote-
The constitution outlines that American citizens have the right to vote
For example a us citizen can vote for a republican or democratic candidate to be president. This could be Mitt Romney or Barack Obama.
Stand for election-
An American citizen can stand for election at many levels- Federal and state level.
For example a us citizen could stand to be elected as the mayor of New York
Attend Rallies-
American citizens can attend a rally held for people who are candidates for elections.
For example a us citizen could go to a Republican Party rally and ask questions on a candidate who is running for Senator.
Rights and responsibilities of us citizens.
The right to vote in elections- responsible to go and vote and to find out about presidents.
The right of freedom of speech- responsible to respect others views/opinions.
Right to bear arms- responsible to use it efficiently and not out of context/unnecessarily
Right to a fair trial if your accused of a crime- responsible to show up to the court and tell the truth
Right of assembly- responsible to be peaceful
