How many Continents are there, and what are they called?
A continent is one of Earth’s seven main divisions of land. The continents are, from largest to smallest: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia
How many Oceans are there, and what are they called?
there are four named oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic
What is a continent?
a large extensive and unbroken land mass
What is an ocean?
a large mass of salt water which surrounds the land masses around the globe
What is a sea?
a smaller body of water which is found nearer to land
What is a gulf?
a deep inlet of the sea almost surrounded by land
What is a channel?
a length of water joining two larger areas of water
What is a canal?
a human-made waterway that allows boats and ships to pass from one body of water to another
What is a strait?
a comparatively narrow passageway connecting two large bodies of water
What is a bay?
a broad inlet of the sea where the land curves inward
What is an island?
a body of land surrounded by water.
What is an archipelago?
an area that contains a chain or group of islands scattered in lakes, rivers, or the ocean
What is an isthmus?
a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger areas of land
What is a peninsula?
a piece of land that is almost entirely surrounded by water but is connected to the mainland on one side
What is a river?
a fresh water stream flowing a long a natural channel
