What is development aid?

A

Any type of aid which aims to help people help themselves. E.g. Building schools, training teaches to promote education, building clinics, training nurses to expand health care provision

What is emergency aid?

A

Aid given in response to a crisis, like a drought, or times of war. Includes tents, blankets, medical aid. Short term aid designed to support to the end of crisis

What is voluntary aid?

A

When volunteers, usually with skills/experience such as doctors, teachers, engineers, technicians, give up their time to work abroad in countries where people require support

What is bilateral aid?

A

Where one country gives directly to another, e.g. U.K. Provides bed-nets to prevent spread of malaria in Tanzania

What is multilateral aid?

A

Where of groups of countries work together to provide aid. Eg, the UN and EU, both multi member organisations, provide a range of multilateral aid to countries in Africa and across the developing world

A

Support given by individuals or groups such as Oxfam, Save the Children or the Red Cross. It’s indelendent of government
