Hinduism
The religion of India, it is a variety of related beliefs and spiritual pracices. It dates back to the “time of Krishna, 5 millenia. Teaches that everything is one(connected). Is also the third largest religion in the world. There were many gods with different meanings and looks, for example, one had the head of an elephant and one was a mother.
Judaism
Started with god calling Abraham and Sarah to leave Mesopotamia and go to the land of Canan. The Israelites were enslaved in Egypt but they were freed by Moses(being helped by god). Moses got the ten commandments and then hundreds more. They only had the promised land for a few hundred years. The Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem, the capital. Became a religion “of the book.”
Buddhism
Began in India with a young prince named Siddhartha. He lived a life of luxury and grandeur, but witnessed human suffering when he ventured out. He belived that the root of this suffering was material possesions so he gave up his and became a wandering beggar.
Christianity
2,000 years ago Christianity was born. Jesus is God in human form. The angel Gabriel asked Mary to become the mother of Jesus. He became the “living word of god.” He taught people about god(his father). He was arrested and executed in Rome by crusifiction. His tomb was found empty and many were convinced that he was raised from the dead.
Islam
Became 1400 hundren years ago from Muhammad. He was visited by Gabriel who told him the words of Allah. Muhammad taught the verses and metaphores that Gabriel told him. His believers became the first Muslims which means “one who surrenders/submits.” The five pillars(most important duties” consist of there is only one god and Muhhammad is his final profit, thet pray 5 times a day facing Mecca, every muslim is required to give 2/3 % of their net worth to the poor, they fast during day light hours for Rammadan, and once in a lifestyle one must make a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca and gets judged(worthy or unworthy of eternal life with him).
Confucianism
A selfless teaching where harmony between people(ruler and servant relationship) and a strict family hierarchy is the way to prosperity. Confucius is believed to have lived and taught during the bronze age of China(479 BCE)
Daoism
Began with Lao-Tzu, a philosopher and poet of ancient China. He founded Daoism with a book titled Tao Te Ching. Daoism is all about individualism. Placed importance on the simplicity of the natural world. The Taoist gods were anarchists.
Pastoralism
Domesticated animals known as livestock graze historically herded by nomadic people who moved around with their herds.
Civilization
Based and citys and governed by states, the product of the age of agriculture.
Patriarchy
A social system in which men hold primary power and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege and control of property.
Diffusion
Diffusion means the spread of culture from one ethnic group or area to another.
Caste System
“A birth determined” social status and inequalities that are natural, eternal, and ordained by the gods. Slaved were at the bottom of all social hierarchy.
Southernization
Certain developments that first occurred in Southern Asia and then spread to other places.
