What is a World Heritage Site?
A world heritage site is a landmark or area that is protected by UNESCO for having cultural, historical or scientific significance.
How does a place become World Heritage listed?
A place is only added to the Word Heritage list after it can demonstrate it represents the most outstanding of the world’s natural or cultural heritage. This decision is made by the International UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
Why is it important to preserve World Heritage sites?
It is important to preserve World Heritage sites because it is a part of who we are, our past and our future. Our culture and heritage shapes society. These sites are irreplaceable and teach us about our natural and cultural heritage.
