A war waged against the city of Troy by the Greeks after Paris of Troy stole the king of Sparta’s wife. (Greek Mythology)

Homer was a great poet who wrote the Odyssey and the Iliad.
Epic
A long poem narrating the adventures of great heroes or legends.
Myth
A story that is written to explain certain phenomenons and how things came to be.
Polis
A city-state in Ancient Greece.
Acropolis
A fortified part of an ancient Greek city. (Usually on a hill)
Monarchy
A form of government in which the country is ruled by a monarch.
Aristocracy
A form of government in which the country is ruled by the wealthy
Oligarchy
A form of government in which a small group of people ruled the country.
Tyrant
A ruler (Usually Evil) who rules over a nation.
Democracy
A form of government in which the power given to the people.
Helot
A non-citizen, but not-slave in Spartan civilization.
Phalanx
A troop standing in close formation.
Persian Wars
The series of war between Persia and the Greeks.
Direct Democracy
A form of Democracy in which the people decide.
Classical Art
The art of ancient Greece and Rome.
Tragedy
A play that deals with tragic events that has an unhappy ending.
Comedy
A play intended to make the audience laugh.
Peloponnesian War
War fought between the Athenians and the Spartans.
Philosopher
A person engaged in learning philosophy.
Socrates
Classical Greek Philosopher who founded Western Philosophy.
Plato
Greek Philosopher and Mathematician in Ancient Greece.
Aristotle
Greek Philosopher and Scientist who came from Macedonia.
Philip II
King of the ancient Macedonia. He was assassinated and his throne was passed down to his son Alexander who is today known as Alexander the Great.
