Board of governors (185 members appoint their governor)
Executive directors (25, delegated by the governors)
Office of the President (President of the World Bank reports to the board of Executive Directors)
What are the millennium development goals
Goal 1: wipe out extreme hunger
Goal 2: provide primary education
Goal 3: Equal rights for women
Goal 4: Reduce death rates of children
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV, malaria and ect.
Goal 7: Protec environment
Goal 8: Promote global partnership
Early borrowers of the Bank
France borrowed 250$ million after the devastating loss of infrastructure that needed to be rebuilt after WW2, same goes for many of the countries affected by the war.

What is the IBRD
International Bank for Reconstruction and Development
Lends money to middle-income countries at desirable rates (lower than commercial banks)
What is the IDA?
International Development Association
Provides interest-free loans (called credits) and grant to governments of the very poorest countries.
The money from IDA is a mixture of funding through donors and IBRD profits and repayments.
Who are the largest shareholders of the WB?
US, Japan, Germany, France, UK. China
what are the six strategic themes?
Poverty and growth (especially in Africa)
Post conflict states
Diversify development solutions for middle-income countries
Active role in regional and global public goods (cooperation)
Support advance development and opportunities in the Middle East
Bank as a “brain trust” of applied experience
