Workshop 1 Flashcards
Which of these is bipolar, unipolar & multipolar & why?
-Unipolar has 1 pole, bipolar has 2 poles & multipolar has many poles
-Unipolar - axon & dendrites arise from single pole
-Bipolar - axon arises from one pole & dendrites arise from other pole
-Multipolar = one pole gives rise to axon & all other poles give rise to dendrites
What is a dermatome?
An area of skin innervated by a single nerve root
What is proprioception?
= body’s ability to sense movement, action & location
-Is present in every muscle movement
Explain proprioception.
-Proprioceptive afferents innervate intrafusal
muscle fibres (type Ia & type II) & golgi tendon organs (type Ib)
-These have opposing responses during muscle contraction
–> golgi tendon organs are under tendon during muscle contraction & at the same time the intrafusal fibres are relaxed
What is a myotome?
A group of muscles innervated by a single spinal nerve root
Explain the corticospinal tracts.
Explain the corticobulbar tracts.
