Worksheet 4 and Individual Prac Flashcards
Displaying Attributes in GIS
In GIS, displaying attributes alongside spatial data can enhance interpretation of data layers.
Render Types in QGIS
QGIS offers four render types depending on the data type:
Multiband color: For files with multiple bands, like satellite images.
Paletted: For single-band files with an indexed palette, like digital topographic maps.
Singleband gray: Renders a single band of the image in gray, used for files without multibands or indexed palettes, like shaded relief maps.
Singleband pseudocolor: Used for files with a continuous palette or color map, like elevation maps
Polygon Drawing Tips in QGIS
In QGIS, avoid drawing polygons that cross over themselves, as it can inadvertently create two polygons in one. To fix this issue, you can cut the polygon apart. Additionally, while drawing polygons, you may need to split apart or merge individual polygons.
Why cant you draw a polygon over itself?
As you draw
the shape it is easy to make one line cross over another, which in
the example shown here creates TWO polygons. This is a mistake
that will confuse QGIS (it inadvertently creates two polygons in
one). One way to fix this problem (other than not making the
mistake in the first place) is to cut the polygon apart
