The standard that must be met is as far as reasonably practicable. In hazards such as the likelihood of getting injury, the cost to minimizing risk, and the degree of damage that could be occurred
What is job of regulator?

Advises government and public
Uses inspectors to investigate accidents and workplaces
What are the benefits of workplace consultation?
Provide opportunity to find better solution to issues
Could be formal (using elected HSRs- health and safety representatives)
Could be informal (meeting and discussion)

Relevant information is shared among the employees
Employees view have to be taken into account by the employer
If workers are represented by HSR, consultation should include that person

Represent the work group
Investigate complaints from group members
Receive information concerning health and safety

Cease work order is when the HSR directed the employee to stop working if there is risk or hazard in the workplace
What is PIN’s?
PIN is provisional improvement notice
HSR will issue PIN if there act that is contravened
PIN is issued in writing and displayed in a prominent position in the workplace
What are conflicts over WHS?
- Profit is more important than safety
- Difference opinion over risks
- Worker’s right to stop work
What is the objective of health and safety committee?
Promote cooperation and develop workplace standards, rules and procedures
What is hazard?
Hazard is something that caused injury to a person or property.

- Identify hazards
- Assess the risk- the likelihood and consequences which are priorities
- Control the risks - eliminate or minimize
- Action that is required
- Monitor and review
