Working Scientifically Flashcards
What is a variable
Anything that will effect the outcome of the experiment
What is a independant variable
Something in the experiment that you delibrately changing
What is a dependant variable
The variable you measure
What is a control variable
Something in the experiment you need to keep the same to not effect the outcome of the result
What do scientists do to try answer their questions
They make OBSERVATIONS and use INVESTIGATIONS to collect DATA
What do you need for an experiment
A plan
What should you include in the plan
What equipment you will use and why , what methods you will use and why and a risk assesment
What is accurate data
It is the data which is close to the true valvue you are trying to measure
What is precise data
Precise data gives similar results if you repeat the measurement
What is an uncertainty
Something which won’t or is hard to give the correct measurement or result
What is repeatability
Repeated data which is similar is repeatable
What is reproducible
Data that is similar which is done by different people is reproducible
Types of data
Continuous ,discrete and categoric
Def of continuous
It can have any value, such as length or temperature. It can only have two extremes which is counted or measured
Def of discrete
it can have only whole-number values such as number of paperclips or woodlice
