3) take off lids, etc
4) garbage and sharps container set up away from clean field
5) open needle right before use- only open as many as you need

A

1) wash hands
2) inspect site (clean if necessary)
3) swab w/ 70% isopropyl alcohol
4) wait until point is dry
5) needle site
* if you need to palpate afterwards, sanitize hands again

List the steps to safe removal of a needle.

A

1) wash/sanitize hands
2) cotton ball in one hand, use counterpressure while other hand removes needle and hold cotton ball on site for 10 seconds (heat-clearing points are more likely to bleed)
3) immediately place needle in sharps container, throw out cotton ball
4) wash/ sanitize hands
