Digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM)
Ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear medicine have been digital for many years and have been taking advantage of PACS far longer than general radiography has.
Image Acquisition
Any computer that a health care worker uses to view a digital image.
Receives images from the archive or from the various radiology modalities and presents them for viewing.
Display Workstations
