Work, Energy, and Power Flashcards
What differentiates scalar and vector quantities?
Scalar quantities have only magnitude while vector quantities additionally have direction.
What does it mean for an object to be in equilibrium?
The resultant force is 0.
What is the definition of a joule?
A joule is the energy needed to move a mass of one kilogram a distance of one meter with one newton of force.
What happens when work is done against friction?
When work is done against friction acting on an object, the object’s temperature increases.
What is the difference between elastic and inelastic deformation?
If an object returns to its original shape after forces are removed, it is elastically deformed. If the original shape does not return, deformation is inelastic.
