Work Breakdown Structure and network diagram Flashcards
What is a WBS?
Hierarchal tree of tasks that need to be completed.
Very top is the project itself
2nd layer is main work packages. Each level below the second layer goes into more detail onto how to complete the work package
Why is coding helpful for WBS?
Unique identifier, so allows for easy retrieval
Acts as ‘address’ so you can follow the task back to the owner
Grouping of similar tasks
Allows for easier cost estimation
What are the benefits of critical path networks?
Shows logical interdependencies between different jobs
Allows priorities to be quantified (i.e. tasks that cannot be delayed without jeopardizing the whole project)
What are bar charts useful for?
Resource scheduling
What is slack or float?
Amount of time that can pass from earliest finish
On the precedence diagram, what is in the box?
Top left = earliest start Top middle = Task duration Top right = Earliest finish Middle = activity ID Bottom left = latest start Bottom middle = total slack/float Bottom right = Latest finish
