Synthesis

Allusion
an exaggeration that can’t possibly be true
Hyperbole
A humorous way of using a word or phrase so that more than one meaning is suggested
pun
A combination of words that have opposite or very different meanings
Oxymoron
A line of verse consisting of a series of 5 (pent) iambs (1 unit of unstressed and stressed syllables (2 syllables = 1 iamb) 10 syllables in every line.
Iambic Pentameter
A playwright’s written instructions that are provided in the text of a play about the setting or how the actors are to move and behave in a play.
stage directions
An extended speech given by a single character to another character.
monologue
Words that are typically spoken by a character to the audience or another character, are not supposed to be heard by the other characters.
Aside
A conversation between characters.
dialogue
A dramatic speech revealing the inner thoughts and feelings spoken aloud by one character, typically to themselves
soliloquy
A way of speaking that is characteristic of a particular region or a particular group of people.
