ANGLOSPHERE
english speaking nations. In particular, those with cultural and historical links to the UK
EXAMPLE:
- members of the anglosphere are lucky because they don’t have to study english
HANGRY
being very hungry to the point that you feel angry
EXAMPLE:
- i tend to get hangry at around 1 pm so it’s better not to talk to me then
STAYCATION
spending your holiday in your own city/country
EXAMPLE: we have decided to have a staycation this year because of all the travel restrictions around the world
VIRTUE SINGNALING
when someone expresses their opinion with the intention of demonstrating how morally correct/superior they are (negative term)
EXAMPLE:
- Fred is always tweeting about how much he cares about social inequalities but i’m sure he is just virtue signalling.
ECO-ANXIATY
fear and stress regarding the future of the planet
EXAMPLE: young people tend to suffer from eco-anxiaty due to climate change and other environmental issues
DOOMSCROLLING
constantly reading bad news on social media
EXAMPLES:
- i couldn’t sleep last night after 3 hours of doomscrolling
GENTRIFICATION
the process of change in a traditionally poor area when wealthier people move in and displace their original residents
EXAMPLE: - i was born in a working class area of London but, due to gentrification, it's now too far expensive to live there
ECHO CHAMBER
a space (on social media) where a person only hears or reads the opinions and beliefs which support their own
EXAMPLES:
- twitter is good for getting news quickly but it’s usually an echo chamber for most users
