irony
figure of speech where a word’s intended meaning differs from the actual meaning (sarcasm)
point of view
the angle of a situation that shows opinions or feelings of those involved; three major kinds:
first person- “I” and “we”
second person- “you”
third person- “he”, “she”, “it”, “they” or a name
indirect character
the process where the personality of a character is revealed through their speech, actions, appearance, etc.
secondary source
interpretations and analyzations of primary sources; may include parts of primary sources in them such as pictures or quoets (Ex: textbooks and magazine articles)
epic hero
a brave and noble character, usually the main character, in an epic poem
summarize
to make a summary of
analyze
closely look at the small parts to see how they affect the whole
journey
an occasion when you travel a long distance from one place to another
direct character
the use of another character, narrator, or the character themselves to tell the reader or audience about the subject
phrases
a group of words that stand together usually forming a part of a clause and sentence
primary source
a document or object that was written or created during the period it was studied (Ex: diaries and autobiographies)
paraphrase
to restate or reword a text or passage
characterization
to explain the details about a character in a story
clauses
a construction having a subject and predicate that forms part of a sentence or makes a whole simple sentence
