-Acy = State of being something
Primacy: The state of being first in importance
Legacy: A legacy can be a gift from a family member or something handed down from the past.
Ailed is studying hard and trying to be the best she can be so she can leave the legacy of fighting for what she wants to be in her life
Agr- = Field, country
Agrarian: The adjective agrarian is used to describe something that is related to farmland or the economy that is concerned with agriculture.
Agrarianism: An equal or equitable division of landed property; the principles or acts of those who favor a redistribution of land.
Ailed´s family has fought for the agrarian land in their country, Mexico.
Bene- = Come together, agree
Benefactor: A person who helps people or institutions (especially with financial help)
Benevolent: Someone who is benevolent wishes others well, often by being kind, filled with goodwill, and charitable towards them.
Ailed needed a benefactor in order to help pay for rent and bills.
Chrom = Color
Monochrome: A monochrome painting compromises different shades of only one color or is done in black or white.
Chromatic: Able to refract light without spectral color separation.
Ailed found many different paintings that are considered monochrome such as ¨White on White¨ by Kazimir Malevich.
Crypt = Hidden
Encrypt: Convert ordinary language into code
Cryptogram: A piece of writing in code or cipher
Ailed decided to encrypt a message she was going to send to her friends on google email.
-Ence = State or condition
Affluence: Affluence is the state of having a lot of money and many possessions, granting one a high economic standard of living.
Pestilence: A pestilence is either an infectious disease that is deadly or an agent of some kind that is destructive or dangerous.
Ailed studies very hard in order to get a good job, be someone in life, and give their parents many luxuries. Luxuries that they did not have as a kid.
-Ery = Act or practice
Bribery: The practice of offering something (usually money) in order to gain an illicit advantage.
Effrontery: Effrontery is very rude behavior that shows a great lack of respect and is often insulting.
Ailed used bribery on her brother in order for him not to tell their mom that she broke a plate.
Gen = Born, produced
Indigenous: Living things are indigenous to a region or country if they originated there, rather than coming from another area of the world.
Carcinogen: Any substance that produces cancer
Ailed´s parents are indigenous to this country, as they are from Mexico.
Facil = Easy, easily accomplished
Facilitate: When you facilitate something, such as an event or project, you make it easier for everyone to get it done by giving assistance.
Facilitator: Someone who makes progress easier.
Ailed´s dad calls their mom a facilitator because she makes things easier for their children and he says that they have to learn things the hard way too.
Hyper- = Over, Above
Hyperventilate: To breathe ¨over¨ the normal rate.
Hypertension: Blood pressure that is considerably ¨over¨ the normal.
Ailed was about to hyperventilate because she was about to get a flu shot.
Hypo- = Under, Below
Hypothyroidism: Disease when the thyroid gland is functioning ¨under¨ it´s normal output of thyroxine.
Hypotenuse: Side of a right triangle that is stretched ¨under¨ the right angle.
Ailed was learning about different types of diseases in her health class, one of them being hypothyroidism and is considered a autoimmune disease.
Lev = Light, of little weight
Alleviate: To make a troubling situation move towards being ¨light¨
Levy: To raise something because it has been made ¨light¨
There was a big mess and Ailed´s family had to clean quickly, so Ailed decided to hire people in order to alleviate the situation and finish fast.
Mod = Method, measure, manner
Moderation: When you behave with moderation, you live in a balanced and measured way; you do nothing to excess.
Modicum: A modicum is a small amount of something, especially a good quality.
Ailed decided that when she goes to college, she will live in moderation and live her life.
Para- = Beside, alongside
Paraphernalia: Paraphernalia is the equipment that one uses to do something or one’s personal belongings collected over a period of time.
Paradigmatic: Of or relating to a grammatical paradigm
Ailed´s mother told her that she serves as a good paradigmatic on what being a good big sister should look like.
Pli = Fold, bend
Pliant: Something that is pliant is adaptable and can bend easily without breaking.
Ply(v.): give what is desired or needed, especially support, food or sustenance
Ailed noticed that kids in her class used pliant pencils which was very strange to her as they did not break.
