Normal word order:
Subject, verb
Inverted word order:
Verb, subject
(Sentences with two verbs have the subject between them, sentences with interrogative pronouns have the verb at the end)
** Used in questions and sentences containing other elements, such as time and place
Word order with subordinate clause:
Normal word order, but is inverted if at the start of the sentence
Word order with direct object:
Objects are nouns or noun equivalents; subject, verb, direct object
** Inversion is used to accentuate the object
Word order with indirect object:
Indirect object is a person/thing that something is done for; subject, verb, indirect object, direct object
** Can be inverted to indirect, verb, subject, direct
Word order with adjective:
Normal: subject, verb, adjective, direct object
** Can be used as subjective complement (follows a linking verb to describe/identify subject), in which it stands independent of the sentence (at the end)
Word order with adverb:
1) NORMAL/INVERSION: after verb and subject
2) ACCENTUATION: at beginning
3) SUBORDINATE CLAUSE: between subject/verb
4) COMPOUND VERBS: placed between
5) WITH DIRECT OBJECT (PERSONAL PRONOUN): at the end
6) MULTIPLE ADVERBS:PLACED TOGETHER
