Offer judgement on a noun.

Make comparisons

ADJECTIVE: Superlative
Highest degree of quality

ADJECTIVE: Attributive
Before the nouns they modify.

ADJECTIVE: Predicative
After a noun with a verb between.

Immediatley after the noun.

ADVERB: Adverb of manner
Describe the way in which an action is done
‘ He ran passionately ‘
ADVERB: Adverb of time
Tells when something is done or if frequent.

ADVERB: Particularizing adverb/Adverb of degree
Focus attention to what follows.

ADVERB: Exclusive adverb
Excludes other possibilities.

Says where something happens.

Coordinating - Connects two clauses

Subordinating - Connects unequally

Before a noun to indicate which one.

DETERMINERS: Possessive determiners
Show who owns a noun.

An adjective in a sentence. The head word will be an adjective.

PHRASES: Adverbial
An adverb in a sentence. The head word will be an adverb.
‘ He left the meeting very quickly. ‘
PHRASES: Noun phrase
A noun in a sentence. The head word will be a noun.

PHRASES: Verb phrase
A verb in a sentence. The head word will be a verb.
‘ She ran quickly down the stairs. ‘
CLAUSES: Main
A complete sentence, must have a verb.
‘I like eating junk food’
CLAUSES: Coordinate
A main clause in the form of a compound sentence.
‘I like eating junk food and you do too. ‘
