Preposition
Where something is e.g. above my head, below the table
Adjective
A word that descibes a noun e.g. blue table, big chair
Adverb
An adjective that describes a verb e.g. quickly, slowly
Verb
A doing word e.g. running, swimming
Noun
Used to identify a group of words, classes or things e.g. building, tree
Pronoun
A word or group of words you can substitue for nouns e.g. he, them
Article (determiner)
A word placed ahead of a noun to specify some details about it e.g. an, the
Conjunction
A word used to connect clauses or sentences together
Proper noun
They replace common nouns and specify them and always have a capital letter e.g. Paris, Rory
Abstract noun
An idea, quality or state rather than a concrete object e.g. truth, danger
