Nouns
A noun is a word that represents a person, thing, concept, or place.
Verbs
A verb is a word used to describe an action, state or occurrence.
Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe the qualities or states of being of nouns: enormous, doglike, silly, yellow, fun, fast.
Adverbs
An adverb is a word that describes a verb.
Pronouns
A pronoun is a word that is used instead of a noun or noun phrase.
Possessive Pronouns
A possessive noun is a noun that shows ownership of something.
Prepositions
A preposition is a word or group of words used before a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase to show direction, time, place, location, spatial relationships, or to introduce an object.
Determiners
A determiner is a word that modifies, describes, or introduces a noun.
Conjunctions
A conjunction is a word that is used to connect words, phrases, and clauses.
Plural Noun
A plural noun is the form of a noun used to show there is more than one person, place, thing, or idea.
Modal Verb
Modal verbs are used to indicate likelihood, possibility, permission, obligation or ability. Examples of modal verbs include: can, may, should, must, might and could.
Abstract Noun
An abstract noun is a noun that refers to something non-physical – something conceptual that you can’t perceive directly with your senses. Examples include ‘sadness’, ‘analysis’, ‘government’, and ‘adulthood’.
Imperative Verb
Imperative verbs are words used to create an imperative sentence that gives a command to the person being addressed.
