Collective noun
Used to describe a group or collection of people or things
Abstract noun
Used to describe things that cannot actually be seen
Adjectives
Used to describe or tell you more about a noun
Verbs
Used to tell you what a person or thing is being or doing
Imperative verb
Used to tell people what to do
Auxillary verb
Used to help form tenses
Adverb
Used to tell you more about the verb and can answer the questions: How? When? Where? And Why?
Singular pronouns
Used to refer to one person or thing
Plural pronouns
Used to refer to more than one person or thing
Articles
is always used with and gives some information about a noun. There are three articles: a, an and the
Preposition
Used to show the relationship of one thing to another
Connectives/conjunctions
Used to join together words, clauses, phrases and sentences. Helps to create compound sentences by joining to main clauses together
Subordinating connectives
Used to link a main (independent) clause with a subordinate (dependent) clause (a clause which does not make sense on its own)
